Must say I’ve thought this several times. It just looks like he’s not ready for prime time. Do we really want this newbie running our country?

First of all, yes he is the wrong guy. In this ONE (1, single, solo, uno) instance I am going to ride in on my horse in support of Obama and flame on whoever wrote this article.
Here (once again) I have been bitten by my pet peeve, interpretation of remarks. It is always easier to twist someones when you don’t use the entire quote -I will quote word for word the statement after a quick summation of what came beforehand.
Obama is talking about industrial towns in the north that lost jobs decades ago, and though administration after administration has promised new jobs, none have come. Then he states the following -
“So it’s not surprising then that they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.”
OK, lets just say I worked somewhere for 11 years, and was always told I would be taken care of. Then one day it was all taken away, and I was left with nothing. Would I be bitter? Sure I would. Would I think about coming in with a gun and going “postal”? You betcha. Would I pray for God to stop me? Maybe. Would I hate the people who came after me and hope they fail? Definitely.
Hmmm. I think I just internalized that statement.
My point is certainly there are bitter people, certainly some of those people have guns, go to church or hate the people who “stole” their jobs. Why is this comment so outlandish? Am I missing something?
I still don’t want him as my president.

I think my biggest concern is not that he said the thing about clinging to guns, or dying for no reason, or really any of his statements. We’ve all got our opinions and I know that I dont agree with most of his. My concern is that he is so quick to go back on them. I think I remember reading somewhere this morning about saying what you mean… (wink, wink) Obama would do much better and certainly have more respect from those that might disagree with him if he stood his ground on his statements rather than constantly going back and having regrets for all these things he’s said.
