It’s been hard for me to articulate my thoughts on Obama. There’s something there that is just unsettling. Obviously I dont share his political views but that’s not the reason I find him unsettling. There are many people that I dont share their political views and that’s fine, makes for interesting conversation and debate, but there is something about Obama that is more sinister.
I was reading a book a while back, a biography on Huey Long, and I remember telling my dad that Obama reminds me of a black version of Long. I couldnt put my finger on why but he just did. I think I’m starting to see what it is. Obama, like Long, is a well spoken man that seems to connect with ordinary people. He connects using emotion, not reasoning. He has gotten a cult-like following now by doing this. I do believe his judgements are way off however. Pulling us out of Iraq for one is just insane. We cant do that and he should know this. My guess is he probably does know this and is just plucking at the emotions of those “wanting change”. If he is elected President he wont pull the troops. If he does they’ll be sent right back in. And this thing about “change”. Of course we’re going to have change, we’re electing a new president. How can we not have change? See, again this is playing on emotion. I’ll babble more later.

Although I disagree with you, you’ve made a good argument. I don’t understand your idea about Iraq – why can’t we pull out? I see no reason why it can’t happen.

Good morning,
Thanks for stopping by! I look at Iraq as a long term occupation. Regardless of opinion on if we should have gone there we’re there now. We’ve removed and installed a govt. and we are now responsible for its success. We as a nation should not accept the concept that it can fail. If we pull out now before they’ve gotten an adequate handle on things we have only made their, and consequently our, situation much worse. The rest of the world would see us as a country that comes in, tears up everything, then leaves. We’re not like that. We’re better than that but it requires a commitment that we have to have. It would be akin to us pulling out of Germany in 1945. We didn’t do it then, we’re still there, and we have a strong ally because of it. We stayed with them and helped them rebuild. Same holds true for Japan. Just think of what a different world we’d be in if we had not helped Japan rebuild. I know the reasons for going to war with them in the first place were different but the end result was the same. We took control of the country after conflict. We are ultimately responsible for the outcome. That reminds me of this blathering I had a while back http://jasonaycock.wordpress.com/2008/02/05/charity-and-responsibility/
My guess is that my children and grand children may very well be vacationing in Baghdad, provided we stay with them and show them that we are committed to their long term well being.
